What Do I Say Now? Answering Tough Questions From Caregivers

Many speech language pathologists feel less than comfortable collaborating with parents, teachers, and other caregivers who impact the environment of students who stutter. This session provides concrete, “use-on-Monday” frameworks for how to confidently respond to challenging questions from caregivers.

    Nina Reeves is a board-certified specialist in fluency disorders and co-owner of Stuttering Therapy Resources. She is staff fluency specialist for Frisco ISD and specialist consultant for San Diego Unified Schools. Nina is an author of fluency disorder clinical materials and presenter of professional development workshops. She a recipient of the ASH-F Van Hattum Award and the 2019 ASHA Award for outstanding contributions to public schools.

  • J Scott Yaruss

    PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-F, F-ASHA

    J. Scott Yaruss, PhD, is a professor of Communicative Sciences and Disorders at Michigan State University and president of Stuttering Therapy Resources. A National Institue of Health (NIH)-funded and National Stuttering Foundation (NSF), he has published over 115 peer-reviewed manuscripts and over 300 other papers on stuttering, as well as several clinical resources, including the Overall Assessment of the Speaker's Experience of Stuttering (OASES), Early Childhood Stuttering: A Practical Guide, School-Age Stuttering Therapy: A Practical Guide, and the Minimizing Bullying program.
