Mental Health and Wellness
Educators have been overworked, underpaid, and have juggled far too many roles including educator, mental health counselor, safety officer, parent, healthcare worker, and substitute educator. States and school districts have been pressuring educators to close the "learning gap" created by the pandemic and have given little support to do so. Working in schools has become more and more challenging as educators have been at the forefront of political scrutiny, school choice, privatization, budget cuts, and loss of parent and community support. Many educators have been leaving the profession reporting feelings of being demoralized, overwhelmed, stressed, and burned out, lacking hope in themselves, their colleagues, leadership, their students, and the system which contributes to feelings of overwhelm, and stress and show symptoms of burnout. In this course, participants will identify symptoms of secondary trauma, the 4 A's to resilience, 3 types of stress; acute, episodic, and chronic, and the effects of stress on the brain. They will be able to apply methods and strategies to mitigate these symptoms and create action plans for resilience.
